What an absolute day of fun at the beach in St Andrews. My new kite arrived today but to our disappointment, there was no wind in our town to fly it. None at all 🙁
Luckily, we soon came up with an amazing idea. If it was going to be windy anywhere, it would be at the seaside.
Beautiful St Andrews Has A Beach
If you live in Scotland like we do, you’re never more than 50 minutes from our stunning coastline and we have some of the most beautiful shorelines in the world.

We packed some lunch, made sure my baby sister Addalyn was wrapped up warm and we all headed off in my daddy’s car.
St Andrews West Sands is located on the eastern coastline of the Kingdom of Fife
It only took 40 minutes to arrive at the seaside in St Andrews and it was pretty windy when we got there. Not so windy that it ruined the day, but windy enough to fly my new kite on the beach and still have a really good time.
Of course we would end up in the water getting soaked. Luckily, my mum packed a change of shoes for me but not my dad so getting his shoes wet meant he was driving home with soggy feet.
Fun Facts About St Andrews
St Andrews is a small town in Fife on the east coast of Scotland and is more famous for golf than it is for it’s beach.
Aside from golf as we know it today, which was pretty much invented in St Andrews in 1764, it also has a castle, a cathedral and a university which was founded in the year 1412 making it the oldest in Scotland.
Also, the opening scenes from the famous film Chariots Of Fire were filmed here too.

It also has a population of around 16,800 so it’s a fairly small town. It certainly feels much busier on sunny days though as it gets flocked by thousands of visitors to the town centre, the beach and of course, any of the 6 world class golf courses.
2 Miles Of Sandy Beach
What we love most about the beach in St Andrews is that although it can get quite busy, it never gets too busy.
There’s actually 2 beaches in St Andrews – West Sands and East Sands. West Sands is our favourite by far and is 2 beautiful miles of well maintained shoreline and sandy dunes. People who use it tend to look after it which helps make it a truly safe and wonderful place to visit.
The funny thing is now though, ever since we went on a day trip to see the Dinosaurs at Blair Drummond Safari Park, if we’re near a beach I think of Spinosaurus who was a massive fish eating dinosaur who roamed the coastline looking for something to eat. Eek!
Luckily, dinosaurs are now extinct so no-one is getting eaten. You can find more info on the Fife Coast And Countryside Trust Website here: St Andrews West Sands Beach.
Another St Andrews Fun Fact
Standing on the shore, you can look out over the North Sea. If you had a canoe and decided to start paddling, it would take you a while but eventually you would reach the coast of Denmark.
True story…
Anyway, if you ever get the chance to visit the beach in St Andrews, or even just St Andrews in general, definitely do. What an awesome day we had and so much fun. Can’t wait to go back.
